Ibnu Budiman is a MSc candidate at the Environmental Policy Group,
Wageningen University and Research (WUR). He works on the architecture of environmental governance (fragmentation and
polycentric), primarily on climate change (energy-agriculture nexus).
Ibnu is particularly interested in the connections between state and
non-state actors and examining institutional complexity, and how to
improve the effectiveness of climate governance.
Ibnu was a fellow to the Transrisk and Greenwin project, consortiums of research programme of Horizon2020, European Comission (EC). He has published academic articles, policy reports, op-ed articles and book chapters on a variety of environmental issues. He participated in the public debate on environment, climate and energy, agriculture, among other, through newspaper appearances, conferences and open lectures.
Before joining WUR, Ibnu worked in international consulting firms Sustainability and Resilience (Su-re.co), advising international public authorities, such as EC, Asian Development Bank, UNIDO and Japan International Cooperation Agency, on environmental, agriculture, energy and climate policies. He also carried out volunteer at the Canada World Youth in Nova Scotia, Canada; and, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation in Borneo, Indonesia.
Ibnu holds a BSc in Human Geography from University of Indonesia and he joined a field school in the same topic in Sydney University. He is a Indonesian native, speaks English, and has a working knowledge of Indonesia and, several African countries.

Green-win, Horizon 2020 (2015-2018)
The GREEN-WIN project will develop an
international collaboration to apply a solution-oriented approach targeted at increasing
our understanding of the links between climate action and sustainability.
GREEN-WIN will contribute to overcoming economic and institutional barriers to
sustainable climate action through identifying win-win strategies, green
business models and enabling environments which support meeting sustainable
development goals via green entrepreneurship.
ADB "TA-7909 INO: Low-Carbon and Resilient Development Program, (2015-2016)
This project aims to improve climate change mitigation and adaptation in Indonesia by addressing policy frameworks. Three project outputs will be 1.Climate change mainstreamed into national development program planning, budgeting, financing, and monitoring 2. Improved management and governance of the forestry sector and land use enhance climate change mitigation 3. Increased development of renewable energy and energy efficiency enhance climate change mitigation 4. Improved analytical methodologies and planning enhance climate change adaptation.
JICA-Bottom of Pyramid, Boalemo prefecture cacao production promotion project (Sulawesi, Indonesia)" (2015-2016)
The
project aims to suppress the slash-and-burn of maize
agriculture that have been practised in steep slope forest lands that cause
deforestation. To introduce and disseminate high value-added cocoa production
for the potential Indonesian middle-income market and the Japanese market. To
achieve an income improvement of BOP farmers.
Feasibility study project contributing adaptation measures in developing countries by Japanese companies: Production business of high-value-added cocoa in a rainfall decrease region (Bali, Indonesia), METI of Japan (2015-2016)
This project aims the capacity building and
income improvement of farmers by supporting the cultivation of organic cocoa
based on the Japanese companies' technologies and techniques. This project
contributes the poverty reduction of farmers and, as a result, the development
of adaptive capacity approved by IPCC (Contextual Vulnerability.)
UNIDO: "Low carbon and climate resilient industrial development in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa (SAP ID: 130028)"
This is a
regional project on low carbon and climate resilient industrial development
across a section of African countries. The aim of the project is to create
awareness and to demonstrate the opportunities and benefits of low carbon
growth and climate resilient development in the manufacturing and related
productive sectors in African countries through application of Green Industry
(GI) policy instruments, practices and techniques. My role is helping senior
researcher working on methodology and technical advisory for national vulnerability
assessment for industry. We provide guidance, technical input and iterative
feedback to national policy experts in preparation of: a) National
vulnerability assessment report for industry; and b) Climate action brief for
industry.
